STAFF SERGEANT CHRISTIAN FISHER WEINHOLD was born in 1920. He grew up in Camden NJ, where his family lived at 1271 Park Boulevard in the Parkside section. His father worked as an engineer at the RCA-Victor plant in Camden. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden NJ. in June of 1938, where he was active in many school activities. He was valedictorian of his class, president of the Dramatic Club, and chairman of the Year Book. His hobby was photography and before enlisting he was employed by Kline and Godman’s photographic firm of Philadelphia. The Weinhold family moved to Oaklyn NJ shortly afterwards. Christian Fisher Weinhold was inducted into the United States Army in the spring of 1942. Christian Fisher Weinhold qualified for flight duty. He trained at the Army Air Force radio school at Scott Field IL in the fall of 1942, and after completing that course of training he graduated from the aerial gunnery school at Harlingen TX. His engagement to Muriel Covell, 19, of Ardsley PA, was announced December 22, 1942. He had been promoted to Staff Sergeant, and was sent for further training to Boise ID, where he joined a bomber crew. On January 18, 1943 Staff Sergeant Weinhold was killed when the bomber he was training in crashed near Boise on January 15, 1943. He was survived by to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Jack, five years old, and three grandparents, Christian Fisher, of Atlantic City, and Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Weinhold, of Camden. Christian Fisher Weinhold was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Camden NJ on January 26, 1943. |
