On this page you will find the new and updated web-pages on www.dvrbs.com. I think regular visitors to this site, which I hope you are or will be, will find this page useful. I add content just about every day!

PLEASE REPORT ALL BROKEN LINKS TO ME BY E-MAIL

As I've said elsewhere, please drop me a line by e-mail to let me know you have been here. Comments, suggestions, and material to add to the these websites are very much appreciated, which is to say, I've started this, but YOU are more than welcome to be a part of it. Enjoy yourself!

In April of 2016 I experienced a personal crisis which has taken up virtually all of my time, and up until late October I had not been spending hardly any time at all on adding content. I have a huge backlog of material that I would like to add which will be dealt with as best possible, given health and family issues. Thank You for your support and patience.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND

This site has ALWAYS been non-profit and always will be. This is not and never will be a business. This is a "someone had to do it", and sort of became a calling. While monetary donations have always been accepted, I rarely have actively solicited them, and have carried most of the expenses of operating the site out of my own pocket. I've run a few ads but not seen much money.

If you would like to help you can donate by check or money order, mad payable to Phil Cohen, and mail to PO Box 2792 Bismarck ND 58502-2792. To donate through GoFundME, click here

One new page, about the Third Presbyterian Church in Camden. I don't have much material on this church, aside from that that it operated at Broadway and Atlantic Avenue from 1888 into the 1940s, and the church building is still there. If you know anything else about this church, please get in touch with me. Other pages have received new content.

Martin W. Baskow owned and operated the Nine-Thirty-Nine Bar at 939 Market Street in Camden NJ in the 1960s. He was brutally murdered in his bar on the morning of July 14, 1967. This case remains unsolved,  almost 48 years later. If you have any information concerning this crime, please e-mail me. Your identity will be kept confidential and there is a reward for information leading to an arrest.

On May 3, 1974 Margaret Day, a 19-year old student at Rutgers University, was murdered near The Grille, a popular tavern on North 6th Street near Cooper Street. Over 40 years have passed since her life was taken.

Cold cases are supposedly still under investigation. One can only hope that this truly is the what is being done and that the guilty parties will at least be charged. In the case of Martin Baskow and Margaret Day, justice delayed TRULY is justice denied.

May 24, 2017 - May 30, 2017

No new pages, I have been adding content to existing pages, mostly streets and people, and a good deal of it form June 1932 Courier-Post. Broadway got about a dozen new images, and their are new columns on the Charley Humes and James M. O;neill pages.... a big hint as to some good stuff to check out for those who haven't yet! There is also a good address to Congress printed on Charles A. Wolverton's page... another good hint. Go to Central Airport, too! Movie buffs... if you have not seen this page, check out Jimmy Conlin!

Two new pages... one not having much to do with Camden, but quite interesting nonetheless.

Major congratulations to Jeff Vilardo of Mt. Ephraim, New Jersey, who has set up a very good website about war dead from his town, as told by Kevin Riordan in the May 16 Philadelphia Inquirer.

A lot of new pages about Methodist churches in Camden, and major content added to existing ones. as I have been integrating the 1909 Centennial History of Camden Methodism into web pages and some other things of interest. Besides the pages listed below, 27 people pages received new links or content!

Happy New Year! No new pages, but content is being added to existing streets pages and will be throughout the month of January. Federal Street got a major re-working, as did many pages of streets beginning with the letter from A through C.

Merry Christmas to one and all. The new pages listed below represent the last 8 pages that have been set up to honor Camden County New Jersey War Dead from the Vietnam War. There is also new content on a few of the streets pages... Whitman Avenue, Louis Street, Edmunds Street, and Arch Street seeing new images, among others. There will probably be only one new page next week, but I hope to add a lot of content to "streets pages"... as I have said elsewhere, I have a lot of content accumulated that needs to be added. Have a safe week!

In April of 2016 I experienced a personal crisis which has taken up virtually all of my time, and have not been spending hardly any time at all on adding content. I have a huge backlog of material that I would like to add, but not the time or to be honest wherewithal to do it at present. Hopefully this situation will be resolved before the end of 2016. Thank You for your support and patience.

Cold cases are supposedly still under investigation. One can only hope that this truly is the what is being done and that the guilty parties will at least be charged. In the case of Martin Baskow and Margaret Day, justice delayed TRULY is justice denied.

I will be on the road for six weeks and will continue to work on cleaning up the content backlog during this time. The next site update will be on May 15.

As I mentioned last week, I am putting most of my time into catching up on content. Sometime this takes a long time, especially when trying to figure out an exact location for an image... but it's worth the effort. I have a few that I am stumped on, and I will post them on Facebook sometime, maybe you or someone else can figure them out! I will probably update the server next week, then, as I am going east, I won't be back to for an update until mid-May.

March 1 - March 7, 2016

Did not get a whole lot done this week, as there was family business to attend to. The one new page is a home run, I think.... Anna Campos was a nurse who volunteered to serve with the United States Army in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.... dangerous work, not so much from enemy fire as from disease. She died of complications associated with yellow fever and malaria while serving with an Army hospital in Cuba. Anna Campos was second nurse to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, only one other woman, a Civil War nurse, had been given that honor.

Getting back to working on "people" pages, and there are four new ones. Daniel Gallucci served for over 28 years with the Camden Fire Department. John H. Carmany was a prominent businessman and political figure in Camden from 1890 until his death in 1910. I have added content to over 60 web-pages about people that he interacted with. Carmany's son, John H. Carmany Jr. was a member of the Camden Fire Department from 1910 into 1816, and his brother George S. Carmany, owned and operated bars on Kaighn Avenue for over 20 years.

January 19 - January 25, 2016

As you can see, a lot of street work. Check out the page on Earl L. Smith... he was lost while flying in a bomber in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II. His body and that of 9 other American airmen were missing for decades, but were located a few years ago, However, the government of India has refused to allow recovery teams access to the crash site. This is unacceptable.

January 12 - January 18, 2016

You never know what you will find when you start looking into people and places in Camden. It started with an obituary for George Peacock, with services to be held at his son-in-law, William Parke's house at 306 Cole Street. I took a look to see who George Peacock was... ok, pretty interesting, he ran hotels, saloons and restaurants in Camden for about 30 years. Then I looked at William Parke...occupation actor! Hmmmm.... a fifty year career in theater and movies as an actor and director!!! A couple of teasers.... he directed plays in which Ronald Reagan's mother-in-law acted in...... His last role was on Broadway with Boris Karloff.... and that isn't the half of it. This one too a lot of time, but was fun and I hope you enjoy a little immersion into the stage and movie world of the 1890s through early 1940s. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

The first site update of the new year, and the is a lot! FIVE new "people" pages and THREE new "streets" pages... two of them, Gold and Spring, are "lost streets" and one, Silver Street, while still there, does not have a single building standing. New content added to the page honoring Private Srecko Radich, who was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroism in World War II. A vintage fire department photo on the Engine 9 page, and two more photos on the Hollingshead Fire page. Then ew content on the "people" pages is really worth checking out too! Have Fun!

November 17, 2015 - December 7, 2015

Back in the saddle after the Thanksgiving holiday... nice spending time with the wife and family, and nice to be back to website stuff as well.... construction season is 99.9% over, and it's time to settle in for the winter! Needless to say, the tragic news from San Bernadino, where Islamic terrorists killed 14 people and wounded many others, has distracted me.... or rather has taken up a lot of my attention, as well it should. That this event will be taken seriously by those in Washington is doubtful. That it is being taken seriously by individual citizens is obvious, given the increase in sales of personal defense related products.... a very good thing.

No new pages this week, but I added a lot of content to the Spruce Street page. I was given a list of Camden obituaries from roughly 1890s through 1941 and I spent a lot of time last week plugging them in to the Spruce Street page. Have Fun!
