I woke up this morning knowing that I had to go to the day job, and knowing that I was going to use some sick time and leave early. I've been fighting a cold all weekend, woke up 3-4 times.... people, I felt (and feel as of this moment) rough! So once I had cleared up a few issues that were hanging from last week, I got in the truck and headed home.

I was not from home when I spotted a dog wandering about, no leash, a collar, but no tag. A full grown female Rottweiler, and she was either pregnant or had been a few times. I couldn't really leave her, she was not far from a very busy street. Anyway, I will always try and help a stray, and keep in the car a bag of treats, a leash, and a can of dog food for just such events. So I parked the truck, got my stuff, and got down to work.

I tossed her a few treats which she was happy to eat.... old girl was HUNGRY, and after she figured out I had food she approached me pretty readily. She took a treat from my hand, and I had no problem putting a leash onto her, feeding her treats all the time. She was a but reluctant to get into my truck, but once in settled down quickly.

We drove to my house and I took her out of the truck, and put her on a 20' leash. Then I opened up the can of dog food I keep in the truck and she was A VERY HAPPY girl, ate it right up.

I went inside to get my camera and to get Dominic, my very stable and very socialized Border Collie. He went outside, saw Miss Rottweiler and went over... and they were fine together. Not a sound out of the two.

It was time to take our new friend to Almost Home Animal Shelter, but before I did that I took a few pictures. Once we got their I walked her and Dominic together. She was pretty excited but did well on the leash, all things considered. Most importantly, she showed no aggression to anyone. Just a big sweetheart and yes, she's a kisser, too!

Below are the pictures I took, not the best shots I've ever taken but I think they convey who this dog is. You can see how she and Dominic sat so well together in my truck... and these two had only met about 10-15 minutes or so before the photo was taken. Anyway, she's at the shelter in Pennsauken, check her out, she's a sweetheart!

I still am fighting this cold, but I wanted to get this into web-page format while all was still fresh in my mind.

A question that many people have asked... and many others should ask... is "What can I do to help my country in this time of war. The answer is in the link below. This program was started by the operator of the animal information site www.netpets.org, shortly after the 9/11 terror attacks, after learning of thousands of pets put to sleep during the first Gulf War because service men and women had nowhere to board them.
