WILLIAM B. STEPHENS, whose name is recorded in places as Stevens, was active in Republican politics in Camden in the 1890s and early 1900s. He was born in New jersey around 1865, and married Sarah C. Tatem when he was 20. A paperhanger by trade, he was living at 315 Sycamore Street when the 1887-1888 Camden City Directory was compiled. By the end of 1888 he had relocated to 1137 South 4th Street, where he remained for a number of years. By 1906 he had moved to 337 Kaighn Avenue. He was also partners in a cigar store with Alice J. Yinger; the business, A.J. Yinger & Co., is listed at 403-1/2 Kaighn Avenue in the 1906 City Directory.
By 1914, however he had left Camden, and was living in Pleasantville when the 1920 Census was enumerated.
William B. Stephens was elected to the Board of Education when that body was re-instituted in 1901, and served continuously into the 1910s. He later moved to Pleasantville NJ, where he involved himself again in politics. He held the post of Recorder in Pleasantville when when died on June 20, 1933.

|W. B. STEVENS DIES; ONCE COUNCILMAN
Pleasantville Recorder Was Once G. O. P. Leader in Fifth Ward Here
After an illness of several weeks Recorder William B. Stevens, 68, of Pleasantville, and former Camden councilman, died yesterday.
Recorder Stevens was Republican county committeeman from the Fifth Ward and was a member of the Camden Board of Education. He was in the paperhanging business for a number of· years at Fourth Street and Kaighn Avenue. He was a member of the Camden Shrine Club, Camden Lodge of Moose, Junior and Senior Orders of United American Mechanics and the Patriotic Order Sons of America.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah; two daughters, Mrs. Turner Wood and Miss Elizabeth Stevens, and a sister, Mrs. Catherine Stevens Fisher.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, at his late home at 915 North Main Street, Pleasantville. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Pleasantville.
