Jeff Butler, 52, a, former city patrolman, died last night while attending a meeting at the First Italian Republican League headquarters, 813 South Fourth street.
He was found in the basement by several friends, and taken to Cooper Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His wife said he had been ailing for some time. An autopsy will be performed at 11 a. m. today by Coroner Frank J. Leonard.
Butler was appointed to the force as a "summer policeman" In 1928, but served through two full years, until 1930.
